London Places to eat

Happy London: fun food in the heart of London

Sat between Piccadilly and Leicester Square, restaurants don’t get much more central than Happy London. The Bulgarian chain has been making waves across Europe since 1994, and finally opened its flagship London branch in 2021 – mid pandemic, which is no mean feat in the hospitality industry.

What to expect from Happy London

You’ll be hard pushed not to find something you want at Happy. It’s one of those menus that caters to literally everybody, from salads to burger stacks, chicken wings, and even beef carpaccio. It takes a journey around the world, serving up gyros, quesadillas, and arancini… And you might even find something new. Ever tried salmon with guacamole or parmesan haddock? Well now’s your chance.

And it doesn’t stop with the food. Happy is passionate about cocktails, and offers food and drink pairing advice so you can ensure the best combination for your tastes. Focused on the two theories of contrasting and mirroring (picking drink flavours that either contrast or mirror those in your meal), their helpful team will be able to help you pick the perfect drink to complement your order.

What you should know about Happy London

The closest thing that you might already know to compare Happy to is TGI Fridays, but without the American atmosphere and overbearing wait staff. Like TGI’s, Happy has a wide ranging menu that caters to all tastes, and is open to everybody from families with young children, to adults looking for a fun and relaxed place to prop up the bar.

Based in the heart of London’s West End, Happy is often busy with tourists, theatre-goers, and shoppers looking for a place to rest their feet and refuel – but don’t be put off by this eclectic crowd. They are what make the buzzing atmosphere inside.

Why you should go to Happy London

True to its name, Happy is a happy go lucky kind of place that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s not going to be the most glamorous place you’ve ever eaten, but if you’re looking to fill up on modest dishes and large portions with a side of tasty cocktails, you could do much worse than Happy.

It’s not exactly ‘impressive first date’ territory, but it fills the gap in the Central London market for a laid back spot where you can relax, eat, and drink to your heart’s content.

Happy London is open until 12pm – 10.30pm Sunday to Thursday and 12pm – 12am Friday and Saturday.
