London Things to do

Saatchi Gallery: showcasing contemporary and emerging artists

Sat just off of Sloane Square in the heart of Chelsea, the Saatchi Gallery is one of the best collections of art in London. It showcases contemporary and emerging artists, giving new and fresh talent a place to expand their audience and exhibit their latest works.

It’s one of the best things to do in London, whether you have an afternoon to spare or are a dedicated art fan looking to visit all of the city’s top cultural spots.

The Saatchi Gallery opened in 1985 and has been credited with supporting the careers of emerging artists that have gone on to gain international success. Every year it hosts the London Grad Show, where recent art graduates can exhibit their work. And since 2019 the gallery has been a registered charity, supporting fresh talent as it emerges.

Unlike the Tate or the National Gallery, the Saatchi Gallery isn’t the place to go to see the huge artists you already know and love. Instead, it’s a place to discover something new and appreciate the art of those you’ve probably never heard of.

Like most of London’s art galleries, the Saatchi Gallery is free to enter but some exhibitions are ticketed. So you can turn up at the door, but you’ll probably find that there are showings on that you’ll want to pay to see.

During the pandemic, many of London’s galleries have required free, scheduled tickets for entry to avoid overcrowding. Check the Saatchi Gallery’s website for the latest exhibitions and updates on entry requirements.

If you’re interested in modern art, the Saatchi Gallery has as much to offer as the Tate. It’s a relaxing and peaceful place to spend a few hours, and an even better place to discover new talent. If you’re not hung up on only seeing art from internationally famous names, you’ll love the Saatchi Gallery.

The Saatchi Gallery is open from 10am – 6pm everyday.
